Ta-da! A small investment in our collective futures...
What is it? -- you may ask. It's a "mounting hole cover". I put my money where my mouth is and invested in a project called "Solar Roadways" on Indiegogo. When the project met it's funding target, my bank account got lighter... but the world got a little brighter. :) This is my "reward" for giving to the project -- my name appears on what will be the prototype parking lot for Solar Roadways. Neat-o!

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Daylight Saving Time - How Is This Still a Thing???
Any talk of humans being purely rational beings, or relying on "evidence-based decision-making" becomes ridiculously absurd after you watch this and realize that we (a good portion of humans on the globe) participate in a ritual called "Daylight Savings Time" that beyond being odd and inconvenient has actually been proven somewhat DANGEROUS and DETRIMENTAL... and we're still doing it! It's a habit that goes largely unquestioned (what happened to the "the unexamined life... yada yada yada"), serves no apparent purpose, and provides no apparent benefit (except for another thing to bitch about to colleagues at work or school).

Initiatives: The Working Mind | Mental Health Commission of Canada
Initiatives: The Working Mind | Mental Health Commission of Canada
This is a very exciting initiative, and I'm proud to say that I'm now a part of it! I finished my training last week so that I can now train others in a course called "The Working Mind". The purpose of this course is to begin a culture change in Canadian workplaces (and beyond) to reduce the stigma around mental health. Stigma is perhaps the biggest barrier that stops people from seeking help when they need it -- and we all need help sometime in our lives. The stigma around mental causes feelings of shame, thoughts of "I should be able to handle this...", and because of this millions of people are suffering. I want to see this change.
